Black People And Reparations

Monday I had a very interesting... Discussion(?) with a coworker.

It started with us on break and watching politics, and this guy says that Obama needs to tell black people he's going to give them reparations. I rolled my eyes and said "that'll never, ever happen. And if he ever said it, he might as well quit the election or resign as President."

That sent this silly motherfucker into a 10 minute tirade about "slave mentalities" and all this bullshit. Then he brought up H. Rap Brown... Don't know why, but that was a mistake on his part.

After he FINALLY shut the fuck up so I could explain my point, I told him that I grew up in the movement, and I have had Farrakhan at the dinner table a few times (consisting of my step mother, my father, Farrakhan, two of his aids, myself and whomever I was dating at the time) and that I was really close to Khalid Muhammad and also that I used to have coffee and doughnuts with H. Rap Brown three times a week when I lived in the West End, hell he lived 12 houses down from me. Not to mention Dick Gregory, Rev. Dr. Phil Valentine, Bobby Hemmitt (WOW!!! That's our store, way back in 1991) and others. That shut him the fuck up, because he was idolizing from a distance the very people I know personally.

Then after giving him a brief history lesson, I told him that in today's day and age with our economic and educational opportunities, they can keep their reparations. Hell I can buy 40 acres and a mule, what the fuck is that to us now???

Why did I say that? He started foaming at the mouth about white folks this, white folks that, slave mentalities and how I need to respect my elders. Man, fuck my elders if they're still caught up on shit that's not going to happen. As far as white people and slave mentality goes, I don't worry about the common every day white person, they don't effect me. It's Government policies that effect me. It's the ignorance of our people that effect me. Example; talked to a young black girl today (20 years old) about this and she said to me "what's reparations?" See, ignorance effects me. If you don't teach the young their history and pride in themselves as a people, then you wind up with whores and morons who think entertainers of the worst kind are the ones worth looking up to.

Anyway, it got so bad the the assistant GM had to step in and pretty much break it up. It left a bitter taste in my mouth though, for it reminded me of my trip to Atlanta and I attended a lecture and I saw the same dried up ass "revolutionaries" that I used to see 10 fucking years ago. very few new faces. I'm like WTF?? This shit didn't grow, it devolved.

Eh, fuck em.
